FAQ: Migraines & Other Headaches
What Are The Possible Symptoms of Migraine Headaches:

The symptoms of migraine may include any or all of the following:

Migraine headaches are usually experienced in the temporal region on only one side of
the head. Some times migraines affect both sides of the head. They often start in the back
of the head and neck, and move up over the upper sides of the head to the temporal area
on one side only usually. Occasionally, the headaches can alternate from side to side.

The pain of these headaches may be sharp, throbbing or stabbing, pulsating, pounding,
bursting. The pain may be felt behind the eyes. There may be aversion to light

Hot weather may make migraines worse, anger will usually make the pain worse. Some
people experience their headaches getting worse on the weekend when they relax.
Migraines may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, visual disturbances like flashing
lights or blurred vision. Other symptoms may include dizziness, tinnitus, deafness, a dry
throat, and irritability.

According to a recent study published in the British Medical Journal March 15, 2004
researchers at the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and six hospitals in the Great Britain
concluded that "patients receiving acupuncture used less medication, made fewer visits to
general practitioners, and took fewer days away from work or other usual activities."

How Do We Treat Migraine Headaches?:
First, I have my patients fill out a comprehensive headache questionnaire. Using this information
and information about any other symptoms your body is manifesting, I differentiate the pattern
(determine what is causing your headaches from a physical/energetic Oriental Medicine
perspective). Each patient is unique and the cause of their headaches will be unique.

Then, I do non-invasive, painless testing to determine if there is an emotional component to the
headache. The process is very quick, simple and accurate. There is almost always an emotional
component to chronic or recurrent headaches, especially migraine headaches.

Then, if there is an emotional component, we release the stuck emotional energy which is very easy
and painless. Sometimes this alone will make the headache go away and stop them from recurring.

However, sometimes there is blockage in one or more of the acupuncture channels or one's body is
out of balance. In this case acupuncture is indicated. Acupuncture is the painless insertion of hair
thin needles into specific carefully and precisely chosen points on the body.

Sometimes it is necessary for the patient to take herbal medicine. These are inexpensive, highly safe
and effective herbal formulas. Sometimes there remedies are ready made and sometimes patients
who have more complex symptom patterns require a custom herbal preparation.

Note: None of my patient's headaches have been permanently relieved by pharmaceutical
medications.

Have You Had Any Successes Treating Migraines?:

1. A woman came to me with a severe migraine headache, which she had for 3 days, after a very
stressful week. When we finished the treatment (we used Somato-Spiritual-Emotional Technique
(SSETtm) she reported that her migraine had completely gone away there was no recurrence after 6
months.

2. A woman came to me with chronic headaches for the last 20 years which on a scale of 0 to 10
she reported were usually a 4. At the time she was in my office her headache was a 4. Her
headaches were not migraine type. By the time we finished the first session as she was walking out
the door she told me her headache was a .5 (less than a 1). She reported during the next session a
week later that she had had a few days with no headache and at its worst it was a .5. She stopped
her treatment after two sessions because most days she was headache free, and when she did get a
headache it was no more than a .5 which is a vague sensation of pain. We used SSETtm treatment
in this case.

3. Another patient had chronic recurring debilitating migraine headaches and was on Zoloft, and
even anti-seizure medication and strong pain medication that did not help. She missed a lot of work
because of these headaches. Using a combination of acupuncture & SSETtm in 3 treatments her
migraines were gone. She no longer uses any medication and she has not had a migraine since.

These are just a couple of examples of my patient's results. These results are not unusual!
